Mesut Ozil is asking to become Arsenal’s highest paid player in the club’s history in order to sign a new deal at the Emirates according to Squawka.
The report claims that Ozil is enjoying life in London and is keen to sign an extension. However the 27-year-old is pushing for the new deal to be in the region of £200,000 per week.
Ozil became Arsenal’s most expensive signing when he joined from Real Madrid for a record £42.5m back in September 2013.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has stated that he is confident that Mesut Ozil will sign a contract extension.
The 27-year-old has two years remaining on his deal with Arsenal and has been in scintillating form of late.
“They have a two-year contract,” Ozil was quoted as saying by the Daily Star.
“When I talk to them they are happy and they want to extend their contracts so I don’t think it’s a problem. That will be done in the summer.”
Ozil has a total of 19 assists in the Premier League this season – the highest in the league – and has created more chances than any other player (116).
