Mesut Ozil won Man of the Match award following Arsenal victory over Man City

Arsenal beat Manchester City 2-1 at the Emirates to move four points clear of the Citizens in second place – and closed the gap with Premier League leaders Leicester City to just two points.

Mesut Özil setup both goals first providing an assist for Theo Walcott and then for Olivier Giroud taking his overall tally up to 15 in 16 games this season.

The World Cup winner has provided more assists than any other player in the top five leagues in Europe – Spain, Italy, England, Germany and France – and was awarded a Man of the Match award for his efforts against City.

“We have had a lot of difficult games and we are happy now to win against Manchester City all the team is happy and me two,” Özil told Sky Sports after the game in his first post match interview in English.

Özil also stated that he enjoyed providing for the team and that all that is important is the team winning.

“I am happy to help the team I just help the team and I tried to give my best and we won the game so we won the three points,” he added.

The 27-year-old has been in great form recently and has won the Arsenal Vitality Player of the Month award for the two consecutive months.

Arsenal head into Christmas in second place and take on Southampton next on Boxing Day.
