Mesut Ozil reminds Arsenal boss of Dennis Bergkamp

3 Turkish players Wenger should consider as part of £100m Arsenal overhaul

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that Mesut Ozil reminds him of Dennis Bergkamp and not just footballing wise either.

Wenger highlighted that Ozil shares many of the characteristics of Bergkamp in his behaviour off the pitch among his teammates in the dressing room.

“Yes, he’s a bit like [Bergkamp],” Ozil told the official Arsenal website.

“Not that guy who stands up and speaks too much but every time he says something, it is straight to the point.

This is not the first time Wenger has likened Ozil to the Arsenal legend either he recently said this: “Yes, he’s a bit like Bergkamp, not that guy who stands up and speaks too much, but every time he says something, it is straight to the point.

“He has a big influence. He’s not an extrovert, as you know. But you don’t win by coincidence and he has won in his career. He’s demanding from his partners.”

Ozil appears to have unsung leadership qualities according to Wenger which may not immediately come to find considering the World Cup winner is better known for laid back approach but it seems he does have another side.

Bergkamp was also known as the ‘Iceman’ and became an Arsenal legend during his time at the club winning three Premier League titles.

The Dutch star was so popular in fact that Arsenal built a statue in his honour outside the Emirates stadium.

Ozil has yet to win the Premier League with Arsenal but he has won back to back FA Cup titles.
