Mesut Ozil's assist stats will 'mean nothing' if Arsenal don't win the title says former Liverpool defender

Arsenal star

The football pundit and former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has stated that Mesut Ozil’s impressive assist stats will count for nothing if Arsenal do not win the Premier League title this season.

Özil has provided 16 assists in 17 Premier League games which is more than any other player in England and the top five leagues in Europe including France, Italy, Spain and Germany.

“His numbers are remarkable but, at this moment, they mean nothing. He is on target to become a record breaker but, if there is no silverware, what will it mean?” Carragher told the Mail.

The Germany international has also been awarded two Player of the Month awards for October, November and is currently favourite to win the December addition as well.

Arsenal moved two points clear of Leicester City at the top of the table following their 1-0 win over Newcastle United last weekend.

The Gunners take on Sunderland in the FA Cup next weekend and travel to Anfield to face Liverpool in their next league games.
