The NBA star Dirk Nowitzki has backed Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil to break the Premier League assist record this season.

The record is currently held by Theirry Henry for 20 assists, Ozil has racked up 17 assists with 14 league games left to play.

“He [Ozil] has good attackers around him and plays within a successful system and Ozil is performing well within this system” Nowitzki was quoted as saying by Eurosport.

“Ozil is having a great season and I believe he will break the Premier League assist record.”

The Germany international has also created 105 chances for his teammates this team.

Ozil put in a disappointing display during Arsenal’s 2-0 defeat at the hands of Barcelona. The 27-year-old received a rating of 6.26 from WhoScored for his performance on the night.

Arsenal ended up losing to Barcelona by a two goal margin with both goals coming from Lionel Messi.

The Gunners will have to beat Barcelona at the Camp Nou by two goals or more to stand any chance of making it to the next round. Ozil’s side take on Manchester United in the Premier League this weekend.

Arsenal are joint second in the League, two points behind leaders Leicester City.
