Turkish SüperFinal Playoffs - TEAM OF THE WEEK 3: The Great Escape
Volkan Demirel - The 30 year old keeper showed absolute commitment to the team when he bravely dived in to prevent a dangerous through ball undeterred by Beşiktaş striker Edu leading in with his studs held high. Volkan managed to hold onto the ball and despite suffering a gashing wound to his knee resulting in 8 stitches he heroically played on. The wounded keeper was still able to pull off several key saves, dealt comfortably with aerial balls and distributed the ball forwards well. Volkan led by example, a true captain, never letting the pressure get to him.
Emmanuel Eboue - Eboue tormented Trabzonspor down the right flank, his sheer power, pace and acceleration was too much for the Black Sea giants to cope with. Eboue made several darting runs showing great technique while in possession of the ball. The Ivory Coast internationals penetrating 41st minute drive into the Trabzonspor penalty area led to his assist for the third goal. The intelligence and vision shown in sneaking behind the opponents back line to combine with Selcuk Inan's masterful set piece and finish in such style was brilliant... it also wrapped the game up for Galatasaray giving them a 4-1 lead.
Diego Ângelo - The Eskisehirspor defender had an impressive game, he carried out his defensive duties well keeping Bursaspor quiet for much of the game. The Brazilian center back also posed a danger from set pieces and scored the opener thanks to a powerful, well executed header from a corner kick.
Dede - The EsEs left back was yet again one of his teams stand out players, he bossed the left flank, holding his defensive position well and contributing to attacking moves. Dede's set pieces caused Bursaspor problems throughout the game and his 31st minute corner led to the first goal.
Kamil Grosicki - The 23 year old Polish international has been one of the bargains of the season, relatively unheard of in Turkey when he was signed for €900,000 last summer he's now one of the most feared wingers in the league. Grosicki was a constant menace down the wing, mixing his blistering acceleration with great ball control, the winger cuts in well and delivers a dangerous ball. He topped off a great performance with a 19th minute assist, his 12th of the season.
Cristian Baroni - The Brazilian defensive midfielder looks better suited to a more attacking role and really excelled in midfield. Baroni made made several one two's, a few well timed through balls and linked up well with Stoch, Semih and Topuz in the final third. Baroni passed accurately, showed good vision and closed down his opposition well winning the ball in critical areas on a few occasions.
Gustavo Colman - The Argentinian central midfielder was the only player holding Trabzonspor together. At times it was like Galatasaray vs Colman, most of his team failed to turn up however, he took it upon himself to really make Galatasaray work for their victory. The 27 year old midfield dynamo battled hard, he closed down well, was the most accurate passer of the game with 56 passes and scored both of the Black Sea giants goals.
Selçuk İnan - Inan keeps going from strength to strength for Galatasaray. The Lion's midfield maestro once again put on a brilliant performance against Trabzonspor, his passing was as usual of the highest quality, he carried out his defensive and attacking duties well, threaded in through balls, and his set pieces were deadly. He opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a beautifully struck free kick, his fifth of the season. He then set up Necati from another set piece two minutes later and wrapped things up with his second assist from...you guessed it, another free kick. Inan is now Galatasaray's leading scorer this season with 13 goals and has the most assist's with an incredible 16 assists. We take our hats off the to the Lion's talisman.
Miroslav Stoch - Kadıköy'ün golcüsü' (The striker of Kadıköy) was at it again when he thundered home the 57th minute equalizer just minutes after the Black Eagles took the lead. Stoch has been one of Fenerbahçe 's most effective players on the left wing this season and now has 12 goals to his name.
Necati Ateş - Necati came under a lot of criticism last week after squandering countless chances against Fenerbahçe. The best way to silence the critics is to do what a striker does best and Necati did just that. His two goals against Trabzonspor helped secure a vital win, the movement and aerial ability he put on display for the first goal was worthy of mention.
Pierre Webo - Webo opened the scoring with a 6th minute penalty and got the assist for IBB's fourth goal in the 88th minute. Webo's contributions helped keep IBB's Europa League qualification dreams alive and was also his 14th goal of the season.
