Fenerbahçe chairman Aziz Yıldırım has officially announced that he will be running for re-election which will be held on the 19th May.

Aziz Yıldırım has been one of the Istanbul giants most successful chairman since taking over in 1998. Under Yıldırım the Yellow Canaries have won 5 league titles, two Super Cups, reached the quarter finals of the Champions League and won titles in sports branches ranging from basketball to athletics.

Yıldırım was also responsible for the the renovation Şükrü Saracoğlu stadium and it's expansion from a 30,000 to a 55,000 capacity stadium. Fenerbahçe have gone onto become one of Turkey's most financially powerful clubs and have made significant infrastructural improvements.

However, Yıldırım's future has looked uncertain this season over alleged involvement in the ongoing match fixing probe. The Fener chairman has been in police custody since summer on charges of involvement in manipulating games and forming an unarmed criminal organization which intended to obtain financial income through sport. The trial is still running.
