Elazığspor promoted to the Turkish Super League
Elazığspor become the first club to ensure promotion into the Turkish Super League following their 2-1 defeat of Bucaspor on the weekend.
The victory saw the League One leaders guarantee promotion with one week to go marking their return to the top-flight after an eight year absence.
The Gakgoşlar are first with 61 points, second placed Akhisar is on 60 points and third-place Çaykur Rizespor has 59 points however, they will face each other meaning only one team could overtake Elazığspor.
The top two teams secure automatic promotion while the third to sixth placed team will play each other in promotion playoffs.
Elazığspor are managed by Bülent Uygun, one of the most controversial figures in Turkish football, is among the 93 suspects in the ongoing match-fixing case. Uygun was jailed and held in custody five months last year for his alleged involvement in the manipulation of a Turkish Super League game when he was the Eskişehirspor coach.
The Professional Football Discipline Committee found Uygun not guilty of involvement in yesterdays findings. However, the report is independent of the ongoing match fixing trial.
