Football Prince: Emin Altunay joins Liverpool FC academy
Emin Altunay was selected this years winner of the Turkish reality programme, Futbol Prensi (Football Prince).
The show was setup to give one 14-16 year old prospect a once in a lifetime opportunity to join the Liverpool FC academy, train with the club for a year, receive an education and have the possibility of making his stay permanent.
The show was broadcast on state TV channel, TRT, thousands of young players from fifteen regions of Turkey participated in the competition for a place in the final.
The competitors were whittled down to 80 with those remaining taking part in five-a-side tournaments to impress the judging panel.
The 24 young players to make it out of the selection process took part in live elimination shows which began in March 2012.
The last step saw the final three contestants Ali Alkan, Emre Gürsoy and Emin Altunay competing against each other last Saturday in front of a jury including former Liverpool players, Kevin Keegan, Gordon Milne and Dean Saunders.
Altunay impressed the jury with his defensive work as well as attacking play, he was given the Man of the Match award following their game against the Liverpool academy team and went onto to win the title of being 2012, Football Prince.
Liverpool Managing Director Ian Ayre said, "What we are providing is that once-in-a-lifetime chance to play for Liverpool.
People love us because of football and it lets people in other countries see the power of Liverpool Football Club.
The key for us is that it is all over different parts of the world and gives thousands of kids a chance."
