Kayserispor appoint Gerard Van Der Lem as Head of Youth Development
Kayserispor have appointed Gerard Van Der Lem as Head of Youth Development.
The experienced Dutch coach has managed the youth department of Ajax Amsterdam and FC Barcelona.
Gerrard was also assistant manager of Louis van Gaal during Ajax's golden period during the 90's and later joined him at Barcelona.
Kayserispor Director of Football, Suleyman Hurma held a press conference at the Kadir Has training grounds following the move.
Hurma told reporters present, "Kayserispor has always valued young players however, from now on we will not only be a club which signs young prospects but one which develops them.
"We have appointed Gerard as our Head of Youth Development, he has vast experience working with some of the biggest clubs in the world.
"It's a real honour to have him here, Gerard was in charge of youth development at Ajax and Barcelona.
"Gerard will have total control of the youth system, he will be changing the set-up, how it is run, bringing in sweeping changes and also training our coaches. We are fully behind him and believe in this project," Hurma said.
The Central Anatolian club has invested heavily in setting up state of the art facilities and a footballing academy.
The club focus on signing young players, players on free transfers and integrating their own academy players into the team.
Kayserispor has the youngest average aged squad (23) in the top-flight and have embarked on a signing spree bringing some of Turkish footballs brightest prospects to the club over the course of the last few seasons.
