The latest developments in Arsenal

The latest development in Arsenal's attempts to sign Nuri Şahin unfolded last night when Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho gave Şahin the green light to leave the club.

Şahin is currently with his Real Madrid teammates taking part in a pre-season USA tour. Following Real's 5-1 victory over La Galaxy last evening Mourinho told reporters, "He's a young boy [Şahin], he wants to play every match.

"Real Madrid is very difficult, it's not an easy club because we demand a lot. We have great players and when you don't start well, it's difficult to do it.

"With Xabi Alonso, with Khedira, with Lassana, Granero, Ozil it's not an easy situation.

"If he stays, hes' not a problem for me, he's one more solution. We leave it in his hands. Be happy.

"Decide what you want to decide, to be happy. If you decide to leave we are going to help you to leave. If you decide to stay, we are going to support you and try to succeed this season," he said.

Arsenal are in the process of trying to complete a deal which would see Şahin move to the North London club on a one-year loan move.

The main sticking point has been the Gunners wanting a future purchase option, giving Arsenal the right to sign Şahin for a set fee at the end of the agreement.

Real have been reluctant to give the London club a future transfer clause as they see Şahin as being part of their long-term plans and a replacement for Xabi Alonso.

Şahin is reported to be interested in making a move to the Premiership outfit and Real have given permission for a loan to ahead.

The Turkish international joined Real Madrid amid high hopes when he signed for €8 million, last summer. However, he has failed to make the desired impact mainly due to successive injuries.

Şahin has made a full recovery from injury and is back to full health, the Galactico played for the Turkish national team last month and played an important role in victories over Portugal as well as Ukraine.
