Team of the Week 20: A week of upsets

2013-02-05 05:40:56

Fenerbahçe lose at home to Sivasspor

Fernando Muslera - Galatasaray: Muslera pulled off an outstanding performance against Bursaspor, the Uruguayan star could have done little to prevent the Green Crocodiles goal but made sure nothing else was going to pass him. The 26-year-old keeper had to make several important saves and dealt comfortably with wave after wave of Bursaspor attack.

Serdar Aziz - Bursaspor: Aziz put in a solid display against Galatasaray. The young centre-back was at his best and had to be against the leagues highest scoring side.

Mehmet Sedef - Antalyaspor: Sedef made the highest number of defensive interceptions in the Scorpions narrow 1-0 victory over IBB. The 25-year-old helped Antalyaspor keep their first clean sheet in five games.

Atila Turan - Orduspor: Atila bombed up and down the left flank, defended well and his delivery was excellent. Another impressive display by the 20-year-old left back on loan from Sporting Lisbon.

Alanzinho - Trabzonspor: The tricky Brazilian was back to his best against Gaziantepspor, scoring a cracking goal and getting an assist in Trabzonspor's convincing 4-1 victory.

Maurice Edu - Bursaspor: Prior to the game Edu said: "the game verses Galatasaray is make or break," well the US international helped get his side the break they were in desperate need of. Bursaspor went into the game without a manger, Ertuğrul Sağlam had resigned earlier in the week and they were coming off the back of a 4-1 defeat against IBB. Edu put in a praiseworthy performance, his work rate was immense, he closed down the opposition midfielders and gave them hardly any time on the ball. The home crowd brought out the best in Edu and he probably felt a little at home seeing all the Texas banners around the stadium. Texas in case you were wondering are Bursaspor's largest ultra group.

Adrian Mierzejewski - Trabzonspor: The Polish international attacking midfielder was the brains behind most of Trabzonspor's attacking moves and wrapped up a fine performance by getting his name on the scoresheet.

Javier Umbides - Orduspor: Umbides scored the goal of the week, probably the goal of the month and most likely a candidate for goal of the season. The Argentinian midfielder showed wonderful technique, vision and execution in spotting the opposition goalkeeper off his line and managing to lob him from the half way line. He then went on to get an assist and help his side to a 2-1 victory over Gençlerbirliği.

Emrah Bassan - Antalyaspor: The story of Emrah Bassan and Antalyaspor is like that of a Russian Matryoshka doll, it's just one surprise after another. Antalyaspor being second in the league just four points behind Galatasaray at this stage of the season is an incredible achievement in itself. To have players like 20-year-old Emrah helping contribute to the Scoprions impressive season is also great for Turkish football. The young attacking midfielder had a great game, his technique on the ball was outstanding for such a young player and he setup the winning goal.

Michael Eneramo - Sivasspor: Fenerbahçe will be wishing they had brought Eneramo this January after his latest performance. Eneramo opened the scoring, then despite being injured scored the winning goal in the 90th minute with a powerful header and celebrated in emphatic style flying through the air doing several somersaults. The Nigerian international has now scored seven goals in the league this season.

Ahmet Ilhan - Karabükspor: Karabükspor managed to come back from a two goal deficit and a man down against Beşiktaş in one of the most intimidating stadiums against one of the leagues most in form sides. Ahmet Ilhan kicked off the comeback by pulling a goal back in the 63rd minute and was a real handful for the Black Eagles to deal with.
