Wesley Sneijder - 'I can see myself living the rest of my life in Istanbul'
Wesley Sneijder surprised many with his January move to Galatasaray however, the Netherlands international believes he has made the right choice and is enjoying life in Turkey.
"I have always aimed to play for the best clubs in the world - Galatasaray are one of them," Sneijder said speaking to Turkish newspaper, Sabah.
"I have lots of Turkish friends in football and they introduced me to Turkish football so I knew all about Galatasaray.
"I had no question marks over Galatasaray the only thing I was unsure about was the Turkish league - whether it was strong and competitive.
"However, after my first game I found out just how tough the league is. Every team raise their game against us and always put up a challenge."
The Netherlands international also praised Galatasaray's fans as being among the best he has ever played in front of.
Sneijder said, "First of all I want to say that I will always have the upmost respect for Inter fans.
"But words can't explain what it's like to play infront of Galatasaray fans, it's not something that can be described it's something you just have to experience.
"I've never seen anything like it and I don't think there is anything that comes close. The supporters really are incredible, the chants, the banners, the choreography is just amazing.
"I want to invite everyone I know here to experience the atmosphere."
The 28-year-old midfielder described playing under the command of Fatih Terim as a great opportunity and one of the main reasons behind his decision to join Galatasaray.
Sneijder said, "Fatih Terim was one of the main reasons I joined Galatasaray. Working alongside such a great manager who has achieved so much at this club as well as international level is an honor.
"Before joining whoever I spoke with in Italy had good things to say about Terim.
"Terim likes to play attacking football which suits me. It's a great opportunity to work with a manager like him, he made me feel welcome and we had an instant connection."
The former Inter star also underlined how well he has settled into life in Turkey and that he is even thinking about living the rest of his life in Istanbul.
"I don't usually struggle to settle in wherever I go but I really feel welcome here. Drogba also feels the same, we are a big family here at Galatasaray," Sneijder said.
"I was speaking about this with my wife the other day, I haven't experienced this kind of love at either Madrid or Milan and I could really see myself living the rest of my life in Istanbul."
Sneijder joined Galatasaray from Inter Milan for €7.5 million in January. The Dutch international has four goals and an assist in 14 appearances for the Lions since arriving from Italy.
