Manchester United defender Buttner wants to join Besiktas according to agent
Manchester United defender Alexander Buttner wants to join Besiktas according to his agent Aleksander Bursac.
"Buttner has wanted to join Beşiktaş from the beginning," Bursac said.
"Buttner has been watching the Turkish league and Beşiktaş closely, he was really impressed by the Beşiktaş supporters and knows the club's history.
"He also believes the Turkish league is growing in stature following Galatasaray's run in the Champions League."
The latest developments follow Bursac denying interest from Benfica whilst confirming that talks with were ongoing.
“I am currently negotiating with Beşiktaş, but with Benfica? No. Benfica showed interest and then gave up," Bursac told Renascenca Radio.
The Black Eagles finished the 2012-13 Turkish Süper Lig in third position however, were handed a one-year European competition ban from UEFA for alleged involvement in match fixing.
Beşiktaş challenged the ruling and the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) blocked UEFA's decision - granting the Eagles entry into the preliminary stages of the Europa League until a final decision is made on 30 August 2013.
The 24-year-old joined United on a €4 million move from Vitesse last season. Buttner made five Premier League appearances over the 2012-13 league campaign and struggled to settle after suffering homesickness.
