Didier Drogba wanted Chelsea to sign Yaya Toure in 2005
Galatasaray striker Didier Drogba wanted Chelsea to sign Yaya Toure in 2005.
Toure was playing at Ukrainian outfit Metalurh Donetsk at the time before moving onto Olympiakos.
Toure responded to rumours that he had quarrelled with his Ivory Coast international teammate.
"I have never had quarrels with Didier, contrary to what some claimed," Toure told a national paper.
"Didier has been my long-time friend.
"He did everything possible for me to join Chelsea in 2005 and we have been close since then. Would your enemy ever want you to work with him in the same place?"
Toure currently plays for Premier League outfit Manchester City.
Jose Mourinho signed Drogba for €24 million in 2004 and under his management the 35-year-old striker gained a reputation as being one of the best strikers in the world.
The pair won two Premier League titles and a FA Cup together.
Drogba stayed on long after Mourinho departed and went on to score 157 goals in 341 appearances.
The 35-year-old striker won the Premier League again and played a key role in Chelsea's Champions League winning campaign.
Drogba joined Galatasaray on a free transfer from Shanghai Shenhua in January.
The 35-year-old striker has lifted three trophies - the 2012-13 Süper Lig, Emirates Cup 2013, Turkish Süper Kupa 2013 - since joining the reigning Turkish champions.
