Trabzonspor had agreed terms with Chelsea over Demba Ba says president
Trabzonspor president İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu told reporters that an agreement had been reached with Chelsea over Demba Ba however, the injury to Fernando Torres put the move on hold.
"We had agreed terms with Demba Ba," Hacıosmanoğlu said.
"However, following Fernando Torres' injury [Jose] Mourinho made it clear that they didn't want to let go of Ba just yet.
"Despite this we are still interested in Ba."
Ba had been deemed surplus to requirements in Jose Mourinho's preferred squad make-up and ended up being transfer listed at the start of the season. However, due to the injury of Torres, Mourinho is now keen to keep the Senegal international at the club.
"Now we lose Fernando for a few weeks with something in his lateral ligament [in his knee] and that is why we have Demba in the squad," said Mourinho.
"We decided not to open the door to him [to leave] because he is a good player and we need him. The next few weeks is Demba and Samuel and I hope they do well for us."
Ba joined the Blues last January on an €8.5 million move from Newcastle United scoring twice in 14 appearances for Chelsea in his first season. However, Ba has not featured much this season having only made eight league appearances.
The 28-year-old was also closely linked with moves to Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe and Beşiktaş during the summer transfer window.
