Şahan was full of praise for the fans after the game but believes he could have put on a better performance.

“Cars run on petrol, football teams run on supporters, they are our fuel,” Şahan told Lig Tv.

“I am pleased to have scored but I made too many passing errors and could have played better but we have the three points and that is what is important.”

Şahan completed 41 passes but only had a 71 percent accuracy. The Turkish international was given a 7.52 rating by Whoscored for his performance against Mersin.

The 27-year-old now has seven goals and eight assists in all competitions this season.

The Black Eagles trail league leaders Fenerbahçe by just one point and take on Rizespor on the road next week.
