The 21-year-old was born in Germany but is an ethnic Turk and muslim. Can is one of three ethnic Turks in the current Germany national team alongside Borussia Dortmund star İlkay Gündoğan and Arsenal playmaker Mesut Özil.

Liverpool moved into first place in Group B following the victory over the French side.

Can kept his place in the Reds first team following the appointment of Jurgen Klopp who replaced Brendan Rodgers recently.

The young midfielder-come-defender has been deployed in his preferred central midfield position and is expected to start against Swansea on the weekend.
