Robin van Persie has expressed his happiness at meeting Manchester United’s ‘crying fan’ Louis Diamond following Fenerbahce’s 2-0 victory in their opening game of the Turkish Super Lig.

The Netherlands international came on in the second half to make his league debut for his new club.

“I watched it a couple of times, it was very touching, it came from the heart, you could see he was really really sad,” Van Persie told LigTV.

“I will explain that leaving a club and coming to a club is part of football.

“I am very happy that they are here now, so that I can meet Louis and his family.”

Fenerbahçe fans started an online campaign to raise $2000 so that the Diamond family can travel to Istanbul and watch Robin Van Persie play for his new club back in July.

The club responded to the campaign by inviting the family to Istanbul for Fenerbahçe’s opening game of the season against Eskişehirspor a source close to the club told Turkish-football.com.

Van Persie completed his move from United to Fenerbahçe last month and signed a three-year deal in-front of 18,000 fans at the Şükrü Saracoğlu stadium.

The Diamond family had another treat in store as the Yellow Canaries booked them a five day holiday on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey. The family will spend the next five days in Antalya.
