Schalke join Leicester City in the hunt for Switzerland international

Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04 have joined Leicester City in the race to sign Napoli central midfielder Gokhan Inler according to Tutto Mercato.

The report states that despite Leicester’s efforts to complete the signing of the experienced midfielder, Inler would prefer a move to the German giants.

Leicester’s newly appointed manager Claudio Ranieri revealed last week that he was close to securing a replacement for Esteban Cambiasso.

The Argentinian international recently confirmed that he will leave Leicester according to the BBC. The former Inter Milan player released a statement saying that he will not renew his current deal with the Foxes.

Cambiasso scored one goal and provided five assists in 33 appearances for Leicester last season. The 34-year-old joined Leicester City on a free transfer from Inter Milan last summer.

Inler scored one goal in 33 appearances for Napoli in all competitions last season.

Leicester pulled off the ‘great-escape’ last season to beat the drop. The foxes ended the season in 14th place with 41 points.
