Schalke have joined the race for Besiktas star Mario Gomez according to Futbol Arena.

The report claims that the Bundesliga giants are considering a summer move for the Germany international who has been in superb form for the Black Eagles this season.

Gomez has 27 goals in all competitions for the Istanbul giants this season including 25 in the league shattering the record for goals scored in a single season – previously held by Ilhan Mansiz (21).

The experienced striker joined the Black Eagles on a two-year loan deal from Fiorentina over the summer transfer window but Besiktas do have a release clause option.

The Istanbul giants have confirmed that they will try to sign Gomez on a permanent deal over the summer transfer window but the Germany international has the right to refuse.

Gomez has also attracted the interest of Manchester United who have expressed an interest in the striker according to Telegraph and FoxSport last month.
