Simon Mignolet – ‘Besiktas played well’ [divider]
Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet admitted that he thought Beşiktaş played well in the Europa League Round of 32 second-leg.
Beşiktaş eliminated Liverpool from the competition after beating the Reds 5-4 on penalties.
“I think 1-0 at home was a good result for us. Then you hope to score an away goal but it didn’t happen. Besiktas played well,” Mignolet was quoted as saying on the official Liverpool website.
Mignolet underlined that Liverpool have to now prepare for the Premier League encounter with Manchester City on the weekend.
The Reds could move into the top four with a win over the Citizens who are currently second.
“We have to look forward and prepare ourselves as best we can. We need to recover and then go again on Sunday,” he added.
Beşiktaş maintained their unbeaten record against English opposition in European competition following the win.
The Black Eagles held Arsenal to a goalless draw at the Atatürk Olympic stadium in the Champions League play-off.
Beşiktaş also beat Tottenham 1-0 in Istanbul in the Europa League group stages.
The Turkish giants take on relegation battlers Balıkesirspor in the Süper Lig on the weekend.
Beşiktaş are currently second in the league but could overtake Galatasaray if the Lions drop points on Friday.
