Sporting Lisbon pulled out of talks with Fenerbahçe defender Bruno Alves after failing to meet his wage demands according to A Bola.

Alves had been closely linked with a move to the Portuguese giants but his high wages proved a stumbling block.

The Portuguese international defender had been linked with a move away from the Yellow Canaries after falling out with head coach Ismail Kartal.

Kartal and Alves have since resolved their issues and the experienced defender has returned to the first team.

Fenerbahçe recently released a statement denying that Alves would be leaving in January despite being closely linked with a move abroad.

The statement read: “The rumours linking Bruno Alves with a transfer abroad are false. Bruno has a contract with Fenerbahçe football club and wants to remain at the club.”

The 33-year-old defender currently earns €2.3 million per season and has two-years left on his contract.
