Stoke City fail in bid to sign Dutch star a year after he left Man Utd

Van Persie

Stoke City have failed in their bid to sign Robin van Persie from Fenerbahce according to the Turkish newspaper Sabah.

Van Persie joined Fenerbahce from Manchester United last summer but has struggled to adapt to life in Istanbul and has had confrontations with the Yellow Canaries manager Vitor Pereira.

However, Sabah state that Fenerbahce have no intention of selling Van Persie just a season after signing him from the Red Devils.

A source close to the player told Turkish-football.com that Stoke were close to loaning Van Persie however, after a meeting between the agent and Fenerbahce an agreement was reached for the Dutch star to stay at the club.

Sabah goes onto state that Stoke City have given up on the former Arsenal striker and will pursue other targets.

Van Persie provided three assists and found the back of the net 22 times in 48 appearances in all competitions for Fenerbahce last season.
