Team of the Week 14: Man Utd target Mario Gomez strikes again, Samuel Eto’o on fire

Fernando Muslera – Galatasaray: The Uruguayan keeper managed to hold out for the full 90 minutes keeping the Lions first clean sheet in their last four games following the 3-0 victory over Bursaspor.

Douglau – Akhisar: The towering centre-back has been one of the stand out players of the season and played a key role in the Akigolar moving into third place in the league after scoring the winning goal in the 1-0 victory over Sivasspor on the weekend. The Brazilian defender made a whopping 9 clearances, the highest number of tackles (3) and was a constant threat in the opposition penalty area. It is little surprise that the former Braga man is statistically rated the best performing player in the league according to Whoscored.

Omeruo – Kasımpaşa: The on-loan Chelsea defender Kenneth Omeruo started for Kasımpaşa in the 1-0 win over Osmanlıspor. The 21-year-old made two tackles as well as the highest number of interceptions (5) and the most clearances (4).

Gökhan Gönül – Fenerbahçe: The Turkish international star got the Yellow Canaries back in the game after going down a goal and a man against Gaziantepspor. Gönül scored the equaliser and put on a stellar performance.

Atiba Hutchinson – Beşiktaş: The Canadian international has played an instrumental role in Beşiktaş ascending to the top of the table. Hutchinson was at his best once against against Kayserispor making 45 passes at an impressive 91 percent completion rate. The assiduous midfielder made the most interceptions for his team (7) and also got forward into the final third when needed. It would not be hyperbolic to claim that Hutchinson has been the most influential player in the Beşiktaş side this season. There is currently no replacement for the 32-year-old in the side and the team would almost certain struggle without him.

Edin Visca – Başakşehir: The Bosnian international provided an assist and put on a fabulous performance in the Istanbul minnows 2-0 victory against Gençlerbirliği.

Alper Potuk – Fenerbahçe: The Turkish international does not always get to start but really made his case against Gaziantepspor scoring the equaliser and providing Gönül with an assist in the 2-2 draw.

Jose Sosa – Beşiktaş: The Argentinian had a fantastic game setting up Mario Gomez with the opening goal and scoring himself in the 2-1 win over Kayserispor. Sosa also made three key passes and pulled the strings in the final third while also working hard defensively winning back possession five times.

Mario Gomez – Beşiktaş: The former Bayern Munich star earned himself a recall to the national team after an impressive run – 12 goals in all competitions – of form for the Black Eagles and Manchester United are also reported to be interested according to the Telegraph. Super Mario scored the opening goal against Kayserispor dribbling round the keeper and slotting the ball into an empty net in the 2-1 win on the weekend to take his side into first place.

Lukas Podolski – Galatasaray: The former Arsenal man opened the scoring with a powerful shot on 68 minutes and also provided in assist. Podolski now has a total eight goals and two assists in all competitions for the Lions this season.

Samuel Eto’o – Antalyaspor: Samuel Eto’o has been on fire since joining the Scorpions. The former Barcelona man scored his 12th goal of the season was not enough to prevent a 3-2 defeat against Konyaspor. No other player has scored as many goals in the league this season and he has netted 12 of his sides 22 goals over the 2015-16 league campaign.
