Galatasaray vice-president Hamdi Yasaman backed current manager Cesare Prandelli but also revealed that the club would welcome back Shakhtar boss Mircea Lucescu if he wished to return.

“Mircea Lucescu was unfairly dismissed after winning the league title with Galatasaray,” Yasaman said.

“Lucescu has always been loved in the Galatasaray community.

“However, we have decided to stick with Cesare Prandelli but you never know what will happen next season.

“Lucescu is always an alternative, our door is always open for him.

“Prandelli has a contract here until 2016 worth €2.45 million per-season.

“We have faith in Prandelli and Galatasaray might not be playing great football but neither are our rivals.”

Lucescu coached Galatasaray between the 2000-02 seasons, during which time he won the UEFA Super Cup against Real Madrid and reached the quarter-finals in the 2000–01 UEFA Champions League.

The experienced Romanian manager guided Galatasaray to the Super Lig title the following season however, was sacked despite winning the title.

Lucescu has been in charge of Donetsk for 10 years and has won 8 league titles, 6 league cups, 4 Ukrainian super cups and a UEFA cup.
