Thomas Tuchel fighting to keep Liverpool & Man Utd target Ilkay Gundogan at Bundesliga giants

Ilkay Gundogan

Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel has insisted that Ilkay Gundgoan may yet remain at the Bundesliga club despite interest from abroad.

Both Liverpool and Manchester United are interested in signing the 25-year-old according to the Metro.

“I believe it’s not the case that there isn’t a chance he’ll stay,” Tuchel was quoted as saying by SkySports.

“The importance of Ilkay in this form is undisputed, but one can imagine that the interest from other clubs is very high.”

Dortmund have recorded 15 victories in 21 league games this season and find themselves in second place in the Bundesliga.

Gundogan’s career began at Nuremberg before moving to Dortmund for £4m in 2011.

The Germany international has six assists and three goals in 32 appearances for Dortmund this season.

Gundogan is currently tied into a contract at Dortmund until 2017. The Bundelsiga side will have to decide whether to sell him or risk losing the midfield playmaker on a free transfer if he refuses to sign a contract extension.
