Tolgay Arslan received an offer from Arsenal before joining Beşiktaş from HSV Hamburg according to club board member Erdal Torunoğulları.
“Tolgay had received an offer from Arsenal but he decided we would be the best choice in his career right now because he would be more likely to play regularly here, he wanted to sign as a first team player,” Torunoğulları told DHA.
Arslan was closely linked with Arsenal and a number of other English and Italian clubs prior to his transfer to Beşiktaş.
The 24-year-old joined the Black Eagles on a €400,000 transfer from Hamburg on a 3.5 year deal yesterday.
Arslan will make €650,000 until the end of the current league campaign and €1.3 million next season.
The 24-year-old will be available for Beşiktaş’s clash against Mersin İdmanyurdu on Sunday.
The Germany and Turkey U20 international moved to Hamburg from Dortmund in 2009 on a free transfer.
Arslan has two assists in 15 appearances in all competitions for HSV this season.
The hard working midfielder will be able to play with a domestic status in Turkey due to being of Turkish origin.
