Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray have held contract talks with QPR’s in-form striker Charlie Austin.

The Turkish newspaper AMK states that the Lion’s have turned their attention towards Austin after failing to land Leandro Damiao and Ciro Immobile.

The report goes onto state that Galatasaray have held talks with the powerful striker with the view of signing him in January for a cut price.

Newcastle and Southampton are currently the front-runners in the race to sign Austin according to the Mirror.

Galatasaray have been on the hunt for a new striker since the summer transfer window and have previously been linked with Lokomotiv Moscow’s Oumar Niasse and Newcastle’s Papis Cisse.

The Lion’s first choice striker Burak Yilmaz has seven goals while his alternative Umut Bulut has only managed two goals in 16 games. Yilmaz has recently suffered a reoccurrence of a hamstring injury keeping him out until the end of January.

Charlie Austin has one assist and nine goals in 16 appearances for QPR in the Championship this season.
