Galatasaray have offered Chelsea a £2.58 million for Nigerian international midfielder John Obi Mikel according to Turkish sports newspaper AMK.

Per the source, the Lions have offered Mikel a three-year deal on a £2.58 million per-season salary.

Galatasaray sporting director Levent Nazifoglu did reveal that the club would seek alternatives following Lucas Leiva’s transfer from Liverpool hitting the rocks.

“We are no longer pursuing Lucas Leiva, we will continue efforts to sign alternative names instead,” Nazifoglu was quoted as saying by Turkish-football.com.

Besiktas were recently linked with Mikel but his representative told BBC African football journalist Oluwashina Okeleji that he will be staying at Chelsea over the summer.

Okeleji told Turkish-football.com“Conte wants him to stay at the club and he’s also off to the Olympics.”

Mikel has another year remaining on his contract and Chelsea are yet to enter talks over reviewing his current deal.

The experienced midfielder has been at the Rio Olympics with the Nigerian national team and will miss the Blues first game of the season.

It remains to be seen if Conte has plans for Mikel this season. If the Blues do not renew his current deal Galatasaray could end up signing him as a free agent next summer.
