Bayer ended up beating Lazio 3-0 at the BayArena to book a place in the Champions League group stages and Çalhanoğlu scored the opening goal. The home side ended up going through 3-1 on aggregate.
The 21-year-old has now scored back-to-back goals in his last two games for the Bundesliga outfit. The Turkish international scored the winning goal against Hannover last weekend and against Lazio in the Champions League play-off second leg.
Çalhanoğlu was part of the Bayer side that reached the Champions League Last 16 last season losing out against Atletico Madrid on penalties.
Bayer take on Bayern Munich next on Saturday 29 August – Çalhanoğlu is expected to start.
