Van Persie starts first European game since leaving Man Utd as Fener book place in group stages

Robin van Persie started his first European game since joining Fenerbahçe as the Yellow Canaries cruised past Atromitos with a 3-0 victory.

The Istanbul giants went through to the European League group stages with a 4-0 win on aggregate.

The former Manchester United striker failed to get his name on the scoresheet but did come close on a number of occasions as did his former teammate at Old Trafford Luis Nani who was denied by the cross-bar in the second half.

Last seasons top scorer in the Turkish league Fernandao scored a brace and left-back Caner Erkin also – fortuitously – got his name on the scoresheet thanks to a goalkeeping blunder.
