Fenerbahçe striker Robin van Persie scored his first goal directly from a free-kick since 2012 against Kayserispor in the Turkish Super League yesterday.

Van Persie scored on the 30 minute mark to put Fenerbahçe ahead and his goal ultimately resulted in the Yellow Canaries winning the game 1-0 and temporarily moving into third place.

The goal was Van Persie’s first from a free-kick since his strike against Manchester City in 2012 while playing for Manchester United.

Van Persie joined the Yellow Canaries from United over the summer transfer window on a three-year deal and already has five goals and one assist to his name in all competitions. Four out of his five goals have been scored in away games.

The 32-year-old striker is expected to keep himself in the starting lineup with a crucial Europa League game against Ajax on Thursday followed by the Intercontinental Derby on Sunday.

The Yellow Canaries are currently third in the league on goal difference to rivals Galatasaray who are second.
