Fenerbahce striker Robin van Persie scored the opening goal against Kayserispor at the Kadir Has Stadium to put his side ahead.

Van Persie scored on 30 minutes from a sublime free-kick effort just outside the opposition penalty area.

The experienced striker had been complaining at not starting regularly for the Yellow Canaries under the stewardship of Vitor Pereira and did not let down the head coach who included him in the starting lineup today.

Van Persie now has five goals and one assist in all competitions for his side this season. The goal was his first from a free-kick since his strike against Manchester City in 2012.

The Netherlands international joined the Yellow Canaries on a three-year deal from Manchester United over the summer transfer window.

Van Persie was joined by fellow United team-mate Luis Nani who also left the Red Devils for Fenerbahce.

The third Premier League player to join the Canaries was Lazar Markovic who was signed on a one-year loan move from Liverpool.

The Istanbul giants will take on Ajax next at the Sukru Saracoglu stadium in the Europa League on Thursday.
