Video: Raul Meireles shows off his Turkish dancing skills

Fenerbahçe midfielder Raul Meireles is not one to shy away from a good shindig and he was at it once again at teammates Selçuk Şahin’s wedding.

Meireles leads a traditional Turkish dance called the halay accompanied by a drummer and singer.

The halay is a folk-dance popular at weddings and celebrations across Turkey, in particular Central, Eastern, South-Eastern Anatolia and Azerbaijan.

The dance is usually performance with a drum-zurna combination and folk songs are often sung.

Meireles is renowned for being a little on the eccentric side and a cult figure for beard aficionados.

The 31-year-old joined Fenerbahçe from Chelsea for €10 million and has won two Turkish Cups as well as the league title.

Meireles featured in Portugal’s unsuccessful World Cup 2014 team but played an important role in Fenerbahce’s championship winning season.

The Portuguese international was recently selected to play in the All-Star game but had to pull out due to injury as did his fellow Fenerbahçe teammate Dirk Kuyt.

The experienced midfielder did however, travel to England and was involved in the Liverpool FC TV match day coverage of the game.
