Villarreal target Pedro Franco as Gabriel Paulista replacement

Villarreal have set their sights on Besiktas’ Colombian centre back Gabriel Paulista.

According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, the La Liga side have sent scouts to monitor the 24-year-old’s performances and have been particularly impressed with his ability to bring the ball out of defence.

Villareal are in the market for a new defender after selling Gabriel Paulista to Arsenal in the winter transfer market.

Franco joined besiktas in July 2013 for €1.5 from the Colombian club Millonarios FC. The 23-year-old centre back has made a total of 36 appearances for Besiktas in all competitions this season.

Besiktas currently sit in second place in the Turkish Super Lig with 54 points in 25 games. Slaven Bilic’s side take on Istanbul Basaksehir next weekend.

Villarreal are 6th in the Spanish Primera division with 49 points in 28 games.
