Wesley Sneijder delighted to win back the Netherlands captain armband [divider]

Galatasaray star Wesley Sneijder admitted that he is delighted to have won back the captains armband for the Netherlands national team.

“This means a lot to me, it’s always very special,” he told Goal.

“I don’t want to think back to the moment I lost the captain’s armband. I have left that period behind me.”

Sneijder was captain under under Louis van Gaal when he took charge in 2012, but lost the armband to Robin van Persie after his move from Inter to Galatasaray.

Sneijder is expected to start against the Crescent-Stars on March 28 and knows Turkish football well having played at Galatasaray for the past two seasons.

Sneijder joined Galatasaray from Inter in January 2013 and has a total of 30 goals and 14 assists in 93 games for the Lions.

The 30-year-old playmaker has won the Süper Lig, Turkish Cup and Turkish Süper Cup since his arrival in Turkey.

The experienced playmaker now has nine goals and and four assists in 35 appearances for Galatasaray in all competitions this season.
