West Ham debutant was ‘poor’ says Jamie Redknapp

On-loan West Ham striker Emmanuel Emenike made his debut last week in the 1-0 defeat against Southampton.

Emenike was brought on as a second half substitute and almost became an instant hero but headed Sam Byram’s cross wide.

The Nigerian international was however, unable to get his name on the scoresheet in the last 20 minutes to prevent a loss.

Speaking after the game football pundit Jamie Redknapp told Sky Sports that despite almost scoring Emenike was poor on the night.

“Their best chance came from Emenike, who was really poor when he came on. Everything he did just didn’t seem to come off,” he added.

Redknapp was perhaps being a little unfair considering it was his debut and he only played for 20 minutes.

Emenike deserves a little more time to settle in and will have the chance to prove himself against in the FA Cup fourth round clash against Liverpool at Upton Park.

The powerful striker spent the first half of the season on loan at Al Ain scoring seven goal in 11 appearances for the UAE based league.
