West Ham star Dimitri Payet edges out Arsenal's Mesut Ozil to win London Player of the Year

Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has lost out in the race to win London Player of the Year.

The award went to West Ham United’s star man Dimitri Payet who has been in scintillating form since joining in the summer.

Payet edged out Mesut Ozil, Willian, Harry Kane and Odion Ighalo to the coveted prize for 2015/16 at the annual London Football Awards.

Ozil has 18 assists in the Premier League this season and is just two assists away from matching Henry’s record record tally of 20.

Payet has also impressed in his debut season for West Ham. The 28-year-old has scored seven goals and provided six assists in the Premier League since joining from Marseille.

The France international joined West Ham on a five-year deal for an undisclosed eight-figure sum from Marseille in the summer.

Arsenal take on their north London rivals Tottenham in the Premier League this weekend.
