110,000 sign petition to take away Ivan Bebek’s referee license following Fenerbahce debacle

Fenerbahce were knocked out of the Europa League Last 16 clash after losing 4-1 against Braga at the Municipal stadium.

The main talking point after the game was not about the football on display instead it was focused on the refereeing decisions made by Ivan Bebek.

An outraged Fenerbahce fan started a petition after the game calling for UEFA to take away Bebek’s refereeing license.

The petition has already had 110,000 signatures in under 24 hours.

Bebek and his linesmen got off to a bad start after failing to spot the offside on Ahmed Hassan’s goal.

The Yellow Canaries ended up getting manager Vitor Pereira sent off just before the first-half for dissent against the referee.

Alper Potuk got the Yellow Canaries back into the game just before the break scoring the equaliser that looked to have booked Fenerbahce a place in the quarter-finals as it put the away side 2-1 ahead on aggregate with an important away goal.

The trajectory of the game was against altered when Bebek decided to award a penalty against Mehmet Topal for handling the ball.

The replays showed that the ball was clearly blasted at the chest of the experienced midfielder where he kept his arms at all times.

To make matters worse Bebek also sent off Topal for a second yellow card however, his initial booking was handed out for allegedly diving – the replay clearly shows he did not dive.

There was yet another scandal as Bebek failed to spot Braga keeper handle the ball outside the penalty area.

Fenerbahce lost their heads in the aftermath conceding two further goals and getting Alper Potuk and Volkan Sen sent off.

The Fenerbahce board released a statement today requesting for Bebek to be investigated for corruption and betting irregularities.
