Galatasaray manager Jan Olde Riekerink has confirmed interest in Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva.

The Dutch head coach revealed that the Lions want to sign the Brazilian midfielder over the summer and that there have been talks.

Speaking at his Manchester United pre-match press conference Riekerink said: “Lucas is one of the players we are targeting. We have been in discussions and it is true we want an experienced midfielder.”

The Lions boss also stated that Lucas is not the only midfielder Galatasaray are targeting.

“We also have other targets,” he added.

Liverpool are reported to be keen on parting ways with Lucas and Galatasaray are prepared to offer a three-year deal worth €2.4 million per-season.

The 29-year-old midfielder is currently out injured for a month with a hamstring injury but that has not put Galatasaray off.

Galatasaray have however, been unable to reach an agreement yet over his transfer fee. The Lions want Lucas on a free but would be willing to pay up to €3 million for the experienced midfielder.

The Istanbul giants are currently in Sweden as part of their pre-season summer tour and will take on United next on Saturday in Gothenburg.
