The referee Gil Manzano saw the incident and showed Turan a yellow card for dissent according to Inside Spanish Football.

Manzano confirmed that he saw the incident in his post-match report: “In the 48th minute, the player (10) Arda Turan was booked for the following reason: throwing his boot off the field as a sign of dissent.”

Barcelona will not file a complaint either, leaving the 28-year-old free to face Eibar in the La Liga this weekend.

The fiery game saw the referee Manzano brandish 13 yellow cards and send two Atleti players off.

Atleti star Arda Turan was lucky not to become the third player to be sent off for his shoe throwing incident in the first half.

Turan responded to his boot coming off in a challenge by throwing it at the assistant referee. The boot narrowly missed the official’s head and resulted in the Turkish international being shown a yellow card.
