Ian Wright criticises Mesut Ozil performance following Arsenal defeat against Chelsea

Arsenal news Per Mertesacker

Arsenal legend and football pundit Ian Wright criticised Mesut Özil’s performance against Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge today.

The Gunners lost 2-0 against the reigning Premier League champions and had two players sent off – Gabriel as well as Santi Cazorla.

Wright singled out Özil for criticism by stating that he did not even know the World Cup winner was playing for most of the game.

“I didn’t know Mesut Ozil was playing until this happened,” Wright said while speaking on BT Sport.

Özil started against Chelsea but he did work pretty hard throughout the game and made the joint highest number of interceptions in midfield (2) but was dispossessed three times.

The 26-year-old also maintained a 90 percent pass accuracy and made the joint highest number of key passes (2).

The Gunners dropped into 5th place in the league following the defeat while Chelsea moved into 13th place on points after six games.

Arsenal travel away to Leicester next week while Chelsea take on Newcastle United on the road.
